Scott Hakola was born and raised in the beautiful Willamette Valley in NW Oregon. In 1969 his family moved to a small farm on the banks of the Yamhill River just outside of Dayton, Oregon. Scott graduated from Dayton High School and went to college at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon. Scott's major was fire protection. After a year and a half at Chemeketa, Scott tested and was hired as a professional Firefighter in The Dalles, Oregon. The Dalles is where he married the love of his life Ranaye on Friday the 13th of May, 1977. Scott and Ranaye have been married for over 30 years and look forward to the next 30. If you ask Scott what it takes for a successful marriage, his usual reply with a smile is " in order to have a happy marriage you have to decide who is in charge. Ranaye has allowed me to let her be in charge." Scott and Ranaye were very anxious to get back to the valley, so when an opportunity came up for a job with the Lake Oswego Fire Department Scott jumped at it. After coming out #1 on the hiring list, Scott went to work as a firefighter in 1978. Scott was promoted to Driver/Engineer in 1981 and held that position until August 2004 when he was forced to retire. Scott was asked many times why he didn't promote to an officer's position. The short answer, Scott would say, is he loved driving the engines and trucks. While working at the fire department Scott and Ranaye started Raye's Wienie Wagon on the corner of 3rd and Davis in downtown McMinnville in 1982. They owned the Wienie Wagon until 1989 when they sold it to a good friend. The Wienie Wagon is still in operation today, under a new name on the same corner.
Scott's Real Estate career started in 1990. In 1993 Scott and Ranaye opened RE/MAX Premier Associates in McMinnville. After 5 years with RE/MAX they sold out to a partner and started The Home Team Realtors. They appreciated the freedom of the non franchise life. Ranaye had a brief illness, so Scott and Ranaye went to work at Prudential Real Estate in McMinnville. In June of 2004, Scott received some devastating news, is career as a Professional Firefighter was over. Scott had several surgeries on his knees and now his left knee would need to be replaced. Scott was forced to retire after 28 years of fighting fires.
In addition to being a retired Firefighter, Scott is also the proud father of two great children Valorie and Ryan. Valorie is an assistant property manager with Westhills Realty and Ryan has worked for the State of Oregon since 2005. Ryan has a wife Cori and together they have given Scott and Ranaye their 1st grandchild Peyton Leilani Hakola. Peyton was born in January of 2009 and she has been a true joy for the entire family.
Scott's other interests include traveling, usually on a cruise ship, a good poker game, a fine cigar and nice hand crafted micro brew. On Scott and Ranaye's 30th anniversary they went on a Trans Atlantic Cruise. The cruise went up the west coast of Europe stopping at 9 ports and ending at Copenhagen, Denmark. Scott and Ranaye spent 2 additional weeks touring the countries of their heritage. They flew to Finland and Germany and also visited England and Norway as stops on the cruise. Rome was Scott and Ranaye's last stop and after 5 days there, it was time to head home. While in Europe Scott and Ranaye saw their first Smart Car and fell in love with them. Once they returned they discovered the Smart Cars were coming to America. Scott and Ranaye ordered one, and 14 months later their Smart Car arrived. Scott and Ranaye are concerned about the environment and with their Smart Car they feel they are taking a small step in reducing their carbon footprint.
